Fluorescent Oral Tissue Examination

Oral cancer is among the most serious — but also the most treatable — cancers when caught at an early stage. At ORA FIX Dentistry, we perform a fluorescent light examination of your oral tissues at every single visit, at no extra cost. It takes approximately two minutes and requires no needles, no biopsies, and no discomfort.

What We Screen For

• Abnormal lesions on the tongue, cheeks, and roof of the mouth
• Unusual tissue colour changes or white/red patches
• Lumps, thickening, or asymmetrical tissue
• Persistent sores that do not heal within two weeks
• Early signs of oral disease in high-risk patients (smokers, alcohol users, HPV-positive patients)

How It Works

• Preparation — No special preparation is needed. You rinse with a provided solution that helps healthy tissue fluoresce differently from potentially abnormal areas.
• Examination — Your hygienist uses a safe fluorescent light device to scan the inside of your cheeks, the floor and roof of your mouth, and your tongue.
• Assessment — Any areas that appear abnormal under the light are documented and discussed with you.
• Referral (if needed) — If anything warrants further investigation, we will provide a referral to the appropriate specialist immediately.
